Location was nice, staff were very friendly, room was very comfortable, pool was nice and breakfast was good.
Located right on Route 101 North Coast Highway, this Newport hotel provides free Wi-Fi. Fishing, crabbing and clamming at the famous Yaquina Bay are 2 miles away.
Newport is a working town, not just touristy. There are tourist attractions, like Nye Beach and the historic waterfront, but there are people with real jobs and careers, not just catering to tourists. Gas is cheaper here than in the valley.
Across the river is the Marine Science Center and the Oregon Aquarium. We used to go there a lot with kids, but now they don't travel with us any more.
Other things near Newport are very nice for the outdoorsy types. Lots of hiking, biking, kite flying, etc.

We love Newport.
We love Newport. We really enjoy walking on the dock where the Large fishing boats are tied up. There are also really nice beaches all aroiund Newport. The aquarium is also located there and the beautiful bridge that fills the point of view. We ate at the Chowder Bowl at Nye Beach out on the deck, which allows our dog to be there as well.
Newport is easy to navigate. We also enjoy camping near Newport and will probably do that this coming summer. The Central Oregon coast is one of our favorite places to visit.

Food, Dock and pier areas, and the near by beaches are all breathtaking. The little main street on the pier is fun to walk around and explore and the Local Ocean and Chowder Bowl is amazing for seafood.

Newport is such a lovely little town with a lot of fun things to do. We really enjoyed the aquarium and had an awesome lunch at a little place called Ocean Blue seafood. They make an excellent burger as well. But honestly we spend a lot of time at a really quaint restaurant called Chalet that had some serious home down cooking. We had country fried steak breakfast, open face turkey sandwiches and meatloaf sandwiches both hot excellent. Had eggs and potatoes and toast awesome and a great waffle. And they have a fantastic bakery. We also drove around the town to the markets and stuff and everybody was really friendly. Driving around it's such a clean area. And just seeing the ocean when you're driving around is wonderful with those huge waves.

The city of Newport is great, the Shilo Inn was not great, or even acceptable.
They sell you on great restaurant and lounge with a breakfast etc. The restaurant and lounge and breakfast buffet are all closed due to Nobody has a lease so they're empty, no early or late check in, no room cleaning during the stay, walk to office to request towels etc. Avoid Shilo Inn on Booking. It was a small studio, but very thoughtfully appointed.
It was a small studio, but very thoughtfully appointed. It had a small kitchen area, microwave and small refrigerator, like most places, but it had extras, like wine glasses, lots of coffee pods. Not to mention the balcony right off the sliding glass doors that walks out onto a small deck that has a spectacular view of the ocean. Lots of window that look out as well. Oh and the pelicans! Lots of pelicans!
When I booked it said it was a newly opened hotel and the room had unfinished trim, broken pieces in sink and If you moved the tv it would shut off. The RV’S parked outside our balcony we could smell someone smoking marijuana. We had to close our door. We did appreciate the use of a box fan however it wasn’t in the best condition. It would rattle and make sounds like something was in the fan all night. We had to go buy our own for the rest of the stay. No coffee maker in room also, no shampoos
The Sholo has been in Newport for decades... it needs to be updated. Starting with the T.V., first update with a flat screen and possibly the sunshade that might have been ripped out a few visits earlier then our visit. Simple solution for a simple stay. They view is spectacular out the ocean window and we really enjoyt this. Glad to have a coffe pot that Vegas hotels don't have....
This hotel had a beautiful view of the ocean, the staff were super friendly and the breakfast was never busy and had many options. The rooms were clean and up-to-date. The beds were very comfortable and when you add the free salmon chowder and cookies in the evening it would be very hard to not recommend this hotel. Next time I am in Newport and I definitely staying here.
Me and my husband and family absolutely adore La Quinta! We come here every six months to a year it is our favorite vacation hotel at the beach. You truly are pet friendly and kind to animals have the most amazing breakfast and staff and the cleanest most comfiest rooms in Newport! You guys always exceeded our expectations and we love staying with you!
Buetiful and very unique beach and ocean view - that alone was worth the stay. Besides that hotel has a good restaurant that serves dinners and breakfasts, nice stuff and in general very good vibe. Also laundry was top tier - clean, well maintained and the in-hotel shop for small necessities was defenitelly a plus as well.
We stayed a grand total if 15 minutes before finding another hotel. The beds had torn box spring covers. The chair in the room was not only torn but had something on it that looked like poop. There was one small window in the room. My daughter got white dog hair on her sock and we don’t own a white dog.
Underground parking with security into building. Front desk a pleasure. Cookie. Beach access from hotel. Loved our beach walks. Breakfast choices delivered to room- ordered on check-in and came at exact time we wanted in am. Exceptional experience. Located in midst active city area.
The restaurant had an amazing view of the beach and the food was great. The staff in both the hotel and restaurant were very friendly and the room and clean and comfortable. Definitely will stay here again when in Newport. Also, you can't beat the beach access.
Location is central to our destination. Starbuck coffee next door and Chinese restaurant right in the hotel. The food is very good and portion is big enough for 2 meals. The picture on the booking site didn’t match the room decor. It is old not modern.
The view was amazing! Quiet, pet friendly. It is perfectly located just outside of town. Close enough to still enjoy all of Newports shops and restaurants while tucked away on the cliff over looking the Yaquina lighthouse. We will be back!
was right above the beach with a great ocean view. For two couples, it was much more affordable than getting two rooms at a hotel with ocean view. And, we were at ground level, so could go outside to enjoy the beach right from our room.
